Does Beto O’Rourke stand a chance in the Senate race?

Off the top of your head can you recite the name of a Texas State Senator? If you can’t, there is a new name to keep in mind instead, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke. O’Rourke is currently a Democratic U.S. Representative for the 16th congressional district of Texas campaigning to hold one of two seats in the Texas Senate. There are many discussions revolving around whether or not O’Rourke can unseat current Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who has been a Republican Senator since 2013. The last time a Democrat has served as a senator for Texas was in 1993. The fact that is has been over 25 years since a Democrat has been in office has issued a question of concern for whether O’Rourke can find his way into the Senate or not.

In March 2017, O’Rourke announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. He has kicked off his campaign by announcing he will not accept any corporate money from a PAC, a political action committee. Instead he is asking for personal campaign donations from grassroot supporters. Support for O’Rourke is demonstrated at his campaigns and the outlook for his chance in this congressional race is becoming highly successful. O’Rourke and his team have raised over $2.4 million from over 550,000 donations in the last quarter of his campaign.

It seems to be that it is about time there is some change in the legislation of Texas. Republicans ruling over the Texas Senate for the past 25 years makes it feel like there is some sort of redundant cycle coming along every six years for elections and even the midterms. Do we really need to endure another term with the same two Republicans when there is a more than qualified Democrat in consideration?

O’Rourke has more than 13 years of experience of working in a political background. He has served two terms in the El Paso City Council and has eagerly contributed to communities in his hometown. O’Rourke has also been a part of the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Armed Services and Homeland Security. According to votesmart.org, O’Rourke has given his official stance on numerous legislative issues such as providing support to lower federal spending to promote economic growth, pro-choice legislation and same-sex marriage. He does not endorse requiring immigrants to return to their country of origin before being eligible for citizenship, support to rise income taxes on any tax brackets or building the Keystone XL Pipeline.

The opportunities and viewpoints that O’Rourke can share if he makes it as a Texas Senator can be revitalizing for the state itself. There can be new proposals incorporated in the legislation of Texas if he is selected as our new Senator. The possibilities that can exist are some that individuals living in the state of Texas have been waiting for, all with the service from O’Rourke. On November 6th, 2018, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives elections will be held. If you would like to see O’Rourke become your new Democratic Senator submit a voter registration form and cast your ballot. Your vote equals your place in U.S. politics.
