Hilltopper basketball forward transfers to Hilltop for friendship

It’s not hard to miss Shimeek Johnson on campus: the Hilltopper basketball player stands at 6’ 7”. Despite the team’s shaky start with a 4-6 record, Johnson has had some standout games, and he is trying to help propel the team to a winning record. Johnson has leaded the Hilltoppers in scoring in eight of the team’s 10 games so far this season. He notched 20 points against Newman University and 21 points against Rice University for his season high.

After his freshmen year at Fairfield University in Fairfield Connecticut, the New York native transferred to St. Edward’s University to play with a long time childhood friend, Kaliq Gross. Gross graduated last year, but Johnson finishes his last year of NCAA eligibility this season. In Johnson’s first two years at St. Edward’s he earned end of the season all conference honors and Heartland Conference player of the week on three different occasions.
