Le Garage Sale to end all garage sales
Picture this: The Palmer Event Center is covered, corner to corner, with various booths containing everything from clothes to candles.
Clothes, shoes and accessories are everywhere with only narrow isles to navigate between booths.
The atmosphere at Le Garage Sale feels a step below chaotic and for a good reason; Austin’s top boutiques have come together for two days to sell their spring and summer inventory, much to the benefit of their customers.
From first time experiences to long time veterans, there is a diverse assortment of shoppers at Le Garage Sale.
“This is my first time, and it’s awesome,” shopper Kim Lane said. “I wasn’t expecting prices to be this low. It’s definitely worth the $12 entry fee.”
For $12 cash, a shopper can be transported to the world of extreme markdowns.
At the Hip Chick, for example, anything over $799 was marked down to $250.
Lanvin shoes, once at an untouchable $500, are marked down to a reasonable $140.
Vendors have much to say about the sale, as well.
“This is our third year doing Le Garage sale,” Esti Choi of Buydefinition.com said. “It’s good for getting rid of inventory, and it’s great because it makes buyers aware of different stores.”
There are also plenty of jewelry stands dotted around the crowded events center.
Allison Taylor, owner and designer of Taylor Mosely Jewelry, set up her delicate and vibrant jewelry pieces close to the Starbucks concession stand.
“My jewelry is affordable luxury,” Taylor said.
Her pieces range from dainty gold necklaces with vibrant precious stones to artfully displayed gold-dipped rose leaves.
Besides the men sitting on anything they can find, overloaded by their wife or girlfriend’s bags, there isn’t much testosterone to be found at the sale.
“I’m used to being a part of the minority here,” Kirk Haines of Service Menswear said. Service Menswear was the only all-men’s clothing booth in sight.
Amidst chuckles and bashful grins, booth runners Fernando Letemendia and Jim Krnavk enjoy Le Garage sale for a different reason.
“We make money here and our wives (also at Le Garage Sale) spend it here,” Letemendia and Krnavk said.
From toddlers happily sleeping in strollers being pushed by bag-laden men to women waking up extra early to grab the perfect pair of silk slacks, Le Garage Sale accomplished what it was set to do.
