“Cherry” finds popularity at South by Southwest
With three sold-out screenings, “Cherry,” directed by Jeffrey Fine, has been one of the most popular films at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival.
“Cherry” tells the story of Aaron, an awkward, sheltered college freshman. He arrives on campus and is befriended by an attractive, thirtysomething, returning student named Linda.
Although their ages are clearly incompatible, Aaron immediately falls for Linda. Things get even more complicated when Linda’s rebellious, 14-year-old daughter, Beth, develops a strong crush on Aaron.
The film takes a familiar plotline explored by classic films like “The Graduate,” and more recent films like “In the Land of Women,” and breathes new life into it with captivating writing and thoughtful acting.
“Cherry” portrays the pains of unrequited love, the ambiquities of growing up and the journeys we take to find our place in the world.
