Students display diverse variety of art at campus gallery
A wonderful world of art is waiting, hidden between the Chapel and the coffee shop in Doyle Hall to be discovered.
The Student Juried Exhibition in the Fine Arts Gallery displays student work in the fields of art, graphic design and photocommunications.
As a whole, the exhibit is professional and impressive. It gives non-seniors the chance to display their work to their peers and community for viewing and possibly purchasing. The work varies from traditional paintings and photographs to mixed media postcards and posters.
The variety of art shows the creative depth floating around in the art building and deserves attention. However, some of the pieces in the exhibit seem to be on display for the sole purpose of filling space or strictly because they were submitted.
That aside, many pieces have earned their rightful place on the wall. Each piece in the exhibition was judged, and the best received awards.
Aidan Liller received first place for his “Make the Man,” a collection of textiles and photos displaying the struggle between masculine and feminine.
Senior Rebecca Marino received second place for her “Cosmology Study: The Whirlpool Galaxy and Pond (Nacadoches, TX),” two photographs cleverly connecting outer space and a leaf-strewn pond.
Junior Kyle Tweedy received third place for his “Self Portrait,” a large pastel print.
This exhibit displays the creative and modern ways artists are thinking and gives students who spend countless hours in studios, darkrooms and computer labs the rightful attention that their work deserves.
