Pavilions Update: University preparing to host 246 students at on-campus apartments
Residence Life provided a construction update on The Pavilions and the impacts for students scheduled to live in the new on-campus apartments next semester.
The update, sent via email to Pavilions residents Nov. 1, said the university plans to host a maximum of 246 students in January, as part of the first move-in phase.
“Weather, inspections and available labor can all slow down construction schedules,” Vela said. “At this time, we are not able to confidently predict the Phase 1 completion date.”
Regardless of the completion of Phase 1, the move-in date for the Spring 2018 semester is Jan. 13.
Director of Residence Life Alicia Vela said The Pavilions will open in two phases to house as many students possible.
The remaining students will continue to be housed in hotels next semester as part of Phase II.
However, all students with temporary off-campus housing arrangements must move out for winter break 24 hours after their last final or by noon Dec. 15, as part of the check-out policy.
In mid-November, Residence Life will host community discussions regarding temporary housing locations to address concerns, and will also be hosting a webinar for parents after Thanksgiving.
“To make the move-out process easier, we encourage you to begin taking your belongings home over the Thanksgiving holiday,” Vela said. “If needed, we will store your items over the winter break, at the university’s expense.”
Further email updates from Residence Life are expected as the end of the semester approaches.
Vela concluded the email in saying, “I want to thank you for your continued patience as we work to complete The Pavilions and expand the university’s residential community.”
