Texans dominate Titans, Rangers fall short of wildcard spot
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans beat the Tennessee Titans by a dominating score of 57-14, marking it as the highest scoring game in franchise history. To add to the historic game, rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson combined for a total of five touchdowns as he threw for four and rushed for one. He became only the third rookie quarterback to throw for four touchdowns and run for another. Of those three, he became the second youngest to reach the feat, only behind Fran Tarkenton who did the same in 1961. Additionally, Watson threw for 283 yards on 25 of 34 completed attempts and also contributed 24 rushing yards to bring them back to .500 with a 2-2 record. The Texans plan to keep this momentum moving forward as they host the Kansas City Chiefs Oct. 8 for Sunday Night Football.
Dallas Cowboys
Going up against the team that leads the NFL in total points per game, the Dallas Cowboys narrowly lost to the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 30-35. Though the Cowboys lead with a score of 24-16 in the first half, the Rams came back and rallied to score 19 points in the second half and limited the Cowboys to just six. Even with the loss, Dallas scored the highest amount of points so far this season as Dak Prescott threw for three touchdowns while Ezekiel Elliott contributed 139 total yards along with a pair of touchdowns. The Cowboys will look to bounce back next Sunday as they will host the Green Bay Packers.
Houston Astros and Texas Rangers
The Houston Astros swept the Lone Star Series against Texas Rangers, which in turn, eliminated the Rangers’ chances of making an appearance in the postseason. In the first game of the series, the Astros beat the Rangers with a pounding score of 11-2, followed up the next game with a score of 14-3, and ended the final game with a score of 12-2. The Rangers’ hopes of sneaking their way into the postseason as a wildcard were shut down thanks to the results from the beginning of the week. On the other hand, the Astros are looking sharp for the postseason as Jose Altuve has earned his 3rd American League Batting Title after winning their series against the Red Sox 3-1. The Astros are preparing to start their playoff journey, once against playing the Red Sox in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series on Oct. 5.
