Love Yourself: ‘Answer’ is the third compilation album by South Korean boy band BTS.

Meet BTS: the South Korean group that sold more than 1.5 million pre-ordered albums of their latest release: “Love Yourself: Answer” and has a sold-out show in Citi Field Stadium (capacity: 41k seats) in 20 minutes.

BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) is a seven-member group formed by Big Hit Entertainment. BTS comprises of RM (Kim Namjoon), Jin (Kim Seokjin), Suga (Min Yoongi), J-hope (Jung Hoseok), Jimin (Park Jimin), V (Kim Taehyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jungkook).

They write and produce their own songs, setting themselves apart from other rising groups. Each song contains a story filled with powerful and unforgettable lyrics. Their songs are unique in the K-pop industry as the group touches on issues like mental health (“Whalien 52”), hardships of youth (“N.O.” and “Silver Spoon”), women’s empowerment (“21st Century Girl”), dealing with haters (“Mic Drop”) and self-love (“Epiphany”). “Love Yourself: Answer” is no exception, as the album also contains important messages for their fandom: ARMYs.

“Love Yourself: Answer” is the third addition and conclusion of the “Love Yourself” series. The “Love Yourself” era centers around self-love, self-acceptance, youth, friendship, love and staying true to yourself.

“Love Yourself: Answer” consists of 25 tracks, seven of which include each member’s solo songs containing different themes and meanings.

The first track, “Euphoria” is Jungkook’s solo, the lyrics reflect the value of friendship and bonds. The tempo starts slowly, but as the song progresses it goes faster, giving it a lively tune. Jungkook’s singing is light-hearted and joyful, giving you a sense of euphoria. The best part of the song is when Jungkook reaches the highest pitch of the song, “You are the cause of my euphoria.” Jungkook’s voice is full of emotion making you feel the love and admiration he feels for the other members.

“Serendipity,” Jimin’s solo, centers around finding the love of your life and how their love makes you feel. The song genre is alternative R&B and the tempo is harmonious– almost making you feel at peace and connected to Jimin as he sings softly. Jimin’s voice blends flawlessly as the tempo progresses in a relaxing and comfortable beat.

The trivia tracks in “Answer” are connected with each other and performed by the rapline (RM, Suga and J-hope).

“Trivia: Just Dance,” is J-hope’s solo, and it explains J-hope’s personal feelings and his passion for dancing. The song starts with an energetic beat, making you want to get up and start moving. J-hope sings and raps throughout the song as the melody in the background explodes with passion.

“Trivia: Love” is RM’s solo. The lyrics center around RM’s questioning love and falling in love. The song produces a slow and rhythmic beat. The bass of the song is addicting, offering a steady flow that blends flawlessly with RM’s passionate rapping. The tempo has a perfect mixture of speed as RM reaches the chorus, the beat slows down as he raps.

Suga’s solo, “Trivia: Seesaw,” tells the story of a relationship gone toxic and the struggles of leaving it because neither partner is ready to let go. The beat starts off melancholic and slow. Suga’s voice is soft and emotional as he sings throughout the song. As he sings the chorus, the tempo picks up like a burst of energy. The song ends with a positive and bittersweet melody that fades out.

In V’s solo, “Singularity,” fans speculated over possible meanings. The tempo starts off slowly with heavy bass, giving the song a jazzy and R&B vibe. V’s voice is soulful and deep with emotion as the song progresses, giving listeners goosebumps.

“Epiphany” is performed by Jin and the lyrics reflect the journey of finding and loving yourself. The song is a soft rock ballad that leaves listeners emotional as they hear the melodic voice of Jin.

The album’s tracks are all uniquely written in their own way, however, there are some tracks that fell short.

Take “DNA (Pedal 2 LA Mix),” for example, the track is a remixed version of the original track “DNA,” which is also in the album. The remix is a lot more fast-paced than the original and seems to be like the rock version of “DNA.” Although the meaning and vocals of the song are strong, the pace of the remix seems out of place which impacts the flow of the song.

The next example is “Idol ft. Nicki Minaj.” While the verses are catchy, they seem out of place to the message of accepting your identity, loving yourself and not caring what others think.

“Love Yourself: Answer” contains thought-provoking lyrics that listeners will never forget. It is an album that ARMYs will surely hold deep in their heart for many years.
