Face Off: Netflix reigns supreme with classic, original content
It’s cuffing season, and it’s time to Netflix and chill.
There is an obvious choice to make when you can only afford one streaming service bill: Netflix, your best friend before YouTube.
Netflix started in 1997 as a DVD rental service, and in 2007, it announced its transition into a video-streaming service. It wasn’t until a year later that Hulu went public.
Netflix has been providing reliable streaming since before “Friends” ended, which makes it the old best friend we never want to dump. It knows what we like, and it listens to all of our requests and complaints. It’s there when we need to relax and wind down from a hard day, try to get it on with a date or put on a good old-fashioned sleepover.
This long-time relationship is only the foundation of what it has to offer. Thanks to Netflix, we get to relive our favorite TV shows like “Friends,” “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation.” We also get to enjoy our old favorite movies like “The Princess Diaries” or “The Shining.”
Don’t be mistaken though, Netflix may have a bunch of old shows and movies, but it’s actively updated for new ones. We can enjoy the latest season of “Grey’s Anatomy” or cry over “Coco” for the billionth time.
Most of these are available on other streaming services like Hulu, but nothing compares to the cinematic beauty of Netflix Originals.
These bring fresh, quality entertainment that can’t be copied on other services. Hulu has attempted to do the same, but they’ve only botched “The Handmaid’s Tale” and made other series that only few watch.
The Netflix originals spook with “Stranger Things,” “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and many more original series. These are perfect for cuffing season since you and your date will both be cowering behind each other from “The Haunting of Hill House” or squeezing hands every time lights flicker in “Stranger Things.” If you’re riding solo, you can satisfy your witchy needs with the new Sabrina series.
Original shows like these seem to satisfy our every need.
In the summer, we got to pluck our lonely heartstrings with movies like “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.” This Holiday season, we get to do the same with new movies like “The Holiday Calendar.”
Even our nerdy desires are satisfied with the Marvel spin-offs as well as adaptations like the upcoming “Avatar: The Last Airbender” live-action series.
So when you’re deciding on what bill is worth paying for, choose Netflix. You’ll be satisfied with the rich content of their original series and movies, and you’ll be able to enjoy old and new shows and movies over and over again. It’s the perfect streaming service for binge-watching by yourself or with a friend.
The best part about all of this? Netflix doesn’t have ads.
You’ll never want to stop watching after your first ad-less binge of a show.
