New Year, New Movies: 4 films to look forward to in 2019
A new year brings us a new batch of highly anticipated movies. While we await obvious favorites like the Marvel movies or the Disney remakes, this list will shed light on a few other movies coming out this first half of the year. From animated films, to thrillers and biopics, movie-lovers are on the edge of their seats for the releases of the following:
“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” Dean DeBlois Release Date: February 22, 2019
With all these Disney remakes, it’s refreshing to have an animated film that is bringing its storyline to a close. Many may have grown with Hiccup since the first movie in 2010, so it’s both exciting and bittersweet to see the trilogy coming to its end nine years later. Through the final installment of the series, we follow Hiccup and Toothless on their latest adventure as they discover a new dragon similar to the Night Fury and go in search of a hidden world after the destruction of their village. This film is sure to resonate in the hearts of its viewers.
“Us” Jordan Peele Release Date: March 22, 2019
After the success of the Oscar nominated film “Get Out,” everyone is waiting with bated breath for the next installment from Jordan Peele with “Black Panther” stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke. This thriller takes us into the lives of the Wilson family as they return to the mother’s (Adelaide), beach house for a vacation. The vacation takes a dark turn when the family is bombarded by four silhouettes… who end up being their dopplegangers- also known as the Tethered. The Tethered terrorize the family, and along with chilling imagery of rabbits and large scissors, this movie is sure to surpass its predecessor in terrifying its audience in the best way.
“Rocketman” Dexter Fletcher Release Date: May 31, 2019
Taron Egerton stars in this biopic, depicting Elton John’s life and rise to fame. If you enjoyed “Bohemian Rhapsody,” this movie is sure to entertain you just as much. According to an interview on “The Graham Norton Show,” Egerton says “every note” is his own, bringing the film a new level of authenticity for music lovers.
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” Quentin Tarantino Release Date: July 26, 2019
This film stars two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. As Tarantino’s ninth movie, he has gathered a cast of big names to portray the struggles of an aging actor and his stunt double as they try to succeed in a drastically changing Hollywood. Although the movie will not focus on Charles Manson’s Tate murders, the storyline is in the movie as well, with Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) making the cast list . Despite its upcoming release date, there have been no trailers. Information has been kept considerably under wraps. With all the secrets, anticipation for this movie— which Tarantino says will be the most similar to “Pulp Fiction”— has been high.
