Although Christmas is still weeks away, it’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit. Austin has several Christmas events to help you get into the spirit of the season. From music and art to beautiful lights and holiday baked goods, Austin has an event for everyone to enjoy.
“A Christmas Carol” at the Zach Theater
A modern version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” this stage production runs until Dec. 29. The production, a Zachary Scott Theater tradition for several years now, features classic Christmas carols and hit pop songs incorporated into the traditional story. If musicals are your thing, this show is the perfect blend of modern music and Victorian-themed setting and costume.
Mozart’s Coffee Holiday Light Show
Continuing an annual tradition, Mozart’s Coffee puts on their free, family-friendly holiday light show until Jan. 2. Local Austin musicians perform on a grand piano that will be covered in lights, and he German-themed tent serves delicious coffee, hot chocolate and baked treats. Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll
Free and open to anyone,, attendees of The Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll gather on the south steps of the Capitol to sing their Christmas favorites. It all leads up to the lighting of the Capitol Christmas tree. The event begins at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7. South Congress shops will be open later than usual to offer treats and activities for this fun Christmas event.
Holiday Trail of Lights at Zilker Park
An Austin staple, the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park is held from Dec. 10-23. Zilker is decorated with gorgeous holiday-themed light displays, food stands and even a Ferris wheel, making it the perfect event to attend with the whole family. Any native Austinite will tell you that this is not an event to miss.
Armadillo Christmas Bazaar
The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar lasts from Dec. 13-24 and features both music and handmade items from Austin artists. Shop for handmade gifts for family and friends as you listen to live, local tunes.With refreshments provided, the Bazaar is the perfect event for art and music lovers alike.
