Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce played a key role in the 2020 Super Bowl as he hauled in 43 yards and a touchdown.

After throwing two interceptions late in the game, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes returned to MVP form as he led the Chiefs to a 31-21 victory against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2020 Super Bowl.

Mahomes ended the game with 286 yards, two passing and a rushing touchdown and Super Bowl MVP honors. Mahomes became the youngest player to win a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP in the same season.

This is the second Super Bowl championship for the Kansas City Chiefs. Before Sunday’s game, the Kansas City Chiefs hadn’t been to a Super Bowl in 50 years.

“What a way to end 100 years,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said while presenting the Lombardi Trophy to the Chiefs at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Fla.

Even with 1:12 left on the game clock, Kansas City still wasn’t done. The Chiefs forced a turnover on downs and running back Damien Williams sealed the game with a 38-yard touchdown run. Williams lead both teams in rushing, traveling 104 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.

When San Francisco’s offense was on the field they attacked from the air and ground. At times the 49ers had their way with the Chief’s defensive line rushing for a combined 139 yard among three backs. In the air, San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo utilized eight different receivers for a combined 219 yards on 31 attempts.

Leading the way for the Chiefs in the air was wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill went for 105 yards and caught nine of his 16 targets. Following that up was Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who had an efficient game catching all six of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Prior to Tarvarius Moore’s passing interference, San Francisco’s defense had dominated the night. The 49ers defense had 67 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions. They also held the Chiefs to 10 points through three quarters.

The 2020 Super Bowl is also the first Super Bowl win for head coach Andy Reid: he was the winningest coach in the NFL without a Super Bowl win.

This was the 222nd career win for Reid. He spent 14 years prior with the Philadelphia Eagles only making it once and coming up short. Reid, now finishing his seventh year with the Chiefs, turned the team around: The team finished two and 14 in 2012 and improved to11 and five the following season under Reid’s leadership.

As we won’t have football for six long months, here are some way-too-early predictions as ahold over until next year. I see both San Francisco and Kansas City returning to the Super Bowl in the near future. As long as they continue to develop around their young quarterbacks, both teams look ready for long-dominant runs in their respective conferences.

Teams to look out for are the Saints in the NFC and the Ravens in the AFC. Once the Saints figure out what to do about Drew Brees, then the sky is the limit for that talented roster. For the Ravens, adding a few more dominant receivers this offseason should help the highest-scoring offense (averaging 33.1 points per game) next season, growing their young quarterback Lamar Jackson to Super Bowl MVP caliber.
