Full case of desserts: In addition to cupcakes, the bakery offers cookies and cakes, as well as vegan and gluten-free options.

While many dislike the premise of Valentine’s Day, it is a great excuse to spend time with your loved ones. There are many ways to enjoy the holiday in Austin. While it can feel depressing if you don’t have someone to share it with, there are still ways to enjoy the day with friends and family.

Trying different Valentine’s-themed treats is a great way to get into the spirit. While many bakeries have a seasonal option here and there, Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop is offering several cupcakes and other desserts available only on Valentine’s Day. Some are entirely new recipes and others are twists on their signature flavors. The seasonal Valentine’s Day menu has been a tradition at the bakery since it opened in 2009.

“It’s a little bit different every year,” front-of-house lead Cassie Kinnett said. “The whole case is specific to this special menu.”

Not only are there Valentine’s Day options, but the entire store’s dessert selection is devoted to the holiday.

“No regular options are available that day,” Kinnett  said. “It’s all special.”

There are seven cupcakes offered for the holiday. The new flavors include: Triple Berry, Cherry Amaretto, Chocolate Covered Strawberry and Chocolate Raspberry. The Chocolate Raspberry cupcake is an extra special item because it is the shop’s vegan option with vegan chocolate cake and vegan raspberry buttercream. The vegan chocolate raspberry flavor and the chocolate covered strawberry flavor have been available for the entire month of February, and will also be available for the Valentine’s Day menu.

A few of their classic flavors have been dressed up to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The classic vanilla cupcake (the Marilyn Monroe) has its traditional vanilla buttercream designed to look like a rose. Their classic red velvet cupcake (the Southern Belle) is topped with an adorable heart decoration, and their signature chocolate cupcake (the James Brown) is topped with a Valentine’s-themed mix of sprinkles.

“Everything’s really on theme,” Kinnett said. “It’s all really colorful and bright.”

In addition to their cupcake flavors, there are also other desserts that are available only on Valentine’s Day. From a lemon sugar Linzer cookie with raspberry jam to a strawberry cheesecake brownie in the shape of a heart, Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop has something for everyone.

The shop is also very aesthetically pleasing. There is adorable artwork and decorations displayed year-round, with cute heart decorations currently out for Valentine’s Day. Whether you go with a romantic partner, family or friends, there is a way for anyone to enjoy celebrating the holiday this year.
