St. Edward’s men’s soccer finishes season in Sweet 16
The St. Edward’s men’s soccer team are the South Central Regional Champions, a first in program history. Now, the Hilltoppers will continue on their historic run by advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time.
No. 1 St. Edward’s defeated conference rival No. 4 Midwestern State 1-0 in the Sweet 16 playoff round of the NCAA Tournament earlier today in 70 degree weather in San Diego, California.
The first goal of the game came in the 33rd minute from sophomore forward Dylan Armstrong, who is now the team’s leading scorer with eight goals on the season.

This was a tight match with good goalkeeping and all-around defensive pressure from both teams. In the first half, Midwestern State received three yellow cards, including a team yellow card following Armstrong’s goal.
In the 55th minute, Midwestern junior midfielder Pierre Bocquet took advantage of a corner kick, and used a header to even the 1-1 score. This surprising goal sent both teams into overdrive, as each team knew they had the chance to the win the the regional championship.

On a historic run, this is the first time St. Edward’s has 16 victory in program history. The Hilltoppers hosted their first playoff game in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 12.
