Clubs draft cricket rosters, prepare for Pakistan Super League tournament

The second edition of the Pakistan Super League 2017 cricket tournament will be played in Lahore, Pakistan. At the draft ceremony in Dubai, each club selected their roster and the league’s Chairman Najam Sethi announced the team seeds on Oct. 19.

There will be 80 players, 5 teams, 24 matches and one winner competing in February 2017.

Islamabad United: The defending champions are looking for a second title. The team will be led by the Pakistan test skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq. Misbah will be accompanied by some all-rounders like Shane Watson and Andre Russell. Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Sami, Saeed Ajmal, Asif Ali and Khalid Latif are some local players joining Islamabad United. International players will include Samuel Badree, Brad Haddin, Sam Billings and Dwayne Smith.  

Quetta Gladiators: Sarfaraz Ahmed, the T20 skipper, will lead the second-seeded team, Quetta Gladiators. The skipper will be accompanied by some experienced players like Kevin Pietersen, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Gul, Anwar Ali and Luke Wright. Carlos Brathwaite, who struck four sixes on four deliveries to win the T20 World-Cup 2016 for the West-Indies, will be the part of Quetta Gladiators.

Peshawar Zalmi: After helping the West-Indies team in win the T20 World-Cup in 2016 and winning the hearts of millions, Darren Sammy will be trusted to lead the third-seeded Peshawar Zalmi team. Sammy will be accompanied by the “Boom Boom” of cricket, Shahid Afridi, the leading wicket-taker in T20 International cricket known for his aggressive style with the bat. Peshawar Zalmi’s pace attack will include Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Chris Jordan and Imran Khan, Jr. Zalmi also have some good hitters like Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Tamim Iqbal, Eoin Morgan and Haris Sohail.

Karachi Kings: Pakistan’s former captain Shoaib Malik will lead the fourth-seeded, Karachi Kings. He will be accompanied by the hard-hitting T20 specialist Chris Gayle. Including Gayle, there will be seven big-name foreign players on the Karachi Kings, such as Kieron Pollard, Ravi Bopara and Kumar Sangakkara. “Man of the Series” award recipients Babar Azam and Imad Wasim will be seen together in action due to their respective award-winning performances against the West Indies at One Day International and the T20 Series. The pace attack will be taken care of by Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan and Rahat Ali.

Lahore Qalandars: Lahore Qalandars will be lead by Brendon McCullum, a hard-hitter from the New Zealand team. He will be accompanied by some international players like Sunil Narien, Dj Bravo, Anton Devcich, Cameron Delport, Grant Elliott and Shaun Tait. Locals will include some top class players like Umar Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Rizwan, Azhar Ali and Bilawal Bhatti.
