St. Edward’s basketball predicts Warriors will win NBA Championship
Basketball season is just beginning and the St. Edward’s University men’s basketball team has predicted the NBA Champions for the 2016-2017 season.
Despite blowing a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals, the champion runner-up Golden State Warriors had six first-place votes: Head Coach Andre Cook, junior pointguard Sean Watkins, freshman forward Alex Doria, freshman guard Matthew Paterson, Graduate Assistant Coach Trey Lindsey and Volunteer Assistant Coach Cooper Land.
While Cook emphasized that the Warriors have a great coaching staff, standout superstars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant are big reasons why everyone else voted for Golden State.
Looking for a repeat, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers pose the biggest threat to the Warriors. Sophomore forward Cory McKendree, sophomore guard Landon Goesling, sophomore forward Kraig Shields and Student Assistant Steve Ayala all voted the Cavs another championship.
Freshman guard Dillon Young and Assistant Coach Taylor Land picked the San Antonio Spurs, who are under the direction of Gregg Popovich.
Listed below are the other NBA teams with the corresponding vote.
Brooklyn Nets: Red-shirted freshman Lucas Doria
