Humans of St Edward’s: Freshman acting major praises sister

“My two older siblings are really passive, but my little sister Sophie and I are the opposite.

We’re loud, have tons of energy and I think she really got it from me. She’s my personality times 1000. She’s argumentative and sarcastic. Sophie is 15 but she bullies me on Instagram and is so incredibly beautiful and talented.

This summer before I started college, my parents left Sophie and me here in Austin for a day at Barton Springs Pool. We walked to Chuy’s and ate empanadas which were super delicious and cheap, too. We just goofed around in Austin. I can’t think of a single moment where we suddenly clicked or understood each other; we’re just always having fun.

Sophie has big blue eyes. People say we look alike but I don’t think we do. She also has beautiful auburn hair. She’s really great at cosmetology, like makeup and stuff. She will critique me sometimes when I do my makeup and she’ll help me.

Right now Sophie has braces and it’s good because she’s too smart and pretty and funny to date any of the boys at her high school.

When we were little we did the musical “Annie” at the local community theater. She was the perfect Annie, really tiny, and I was her understudy in case she got sick. She played Annie and I played Pepper. Everytime she sang “Maybe” I would tear up from my little bunk. [Sophie] knew her lines and the adults’ lines. She would whisper their lines during practice and the adults were like, ‘Sophie! You can’t do that.’

I feel like the way we speak to each other is really blunt but our relationship is unique. [Since I’m at college] I miss her but we text all the time. The last time we texted was really late last night. She sent me a funny picture.”
