Tip-off: Men’s basketball team predicts NBA champions for new season
With the start of the National Basketball Association (NBA) season, the St. Edward’s University men’s basketball team casted their NBA Finals Championship predictions.
The reigning champion Golden State Warriors received only one vote from sophomore pointguard Sean Watkins.
However, the champion runner-up LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers received the most votes, which include Quinton Lilley, Alex Doche, Aubrie King, Cory McKendree and Assistant Coach Jack Dorn.
The Oklahoma City Thunder received a vote from junior guard Ramir Burton, and senior forward Trey Lindsey who considers pointguard Russell Westbrook the team’s MVP.
The Los Angeles Clippers have votes from junior guard John Gramlich, and senior pointguard Frank Mgbolu who considers Chris Paul III the “best true pointguard” who will carry the team.
Despite the other Los Angeles team’s struggles, the Lakers received two votes from forwards Ethan Gilbert and James Taylor because of the legendary Kobe Bryant.
The home state teams, the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs each received a vote from a coach.
Volunteer Assistant Marwan Elrakabawy picked the Rockets, while Head Coach Andre Cook picks the Spurs because he considers Coach Gregg Popovich the “best coach in the league.”
