Drake performs as expected at Austin City Limits
Drake’s set started one hour after A$AP Rocky’s ended on the Samsung stage.
Waiting for that hour in a sea of thousands of eager people, pushing and shoving to get closer to the stage for Drake’s ACL performance, I was sure I was going to be trampled to death.
Luckily, I did not get trampled, but I could only see the screen from behind the couples romantically grinding to Drake’s songs. Despite this, my first live Drake experience was as good as I imagined it to be.
The first song he played was “Legend” off his album, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,” that came out earlier this year. Drake interacted with the crowd a lot and got their energy up by referring to Texas as his second home. After this introduction, he played “Headlines” from his 2011 album, “Take Care.”
The highlight of his show was when Drake brought out Future to sing songs from their newly released album, “What A Time To Be Alive.” The songs they performed together, “Jumpman” and “Big Rings,” were never performed live before this night. The songs were even better live than on the mixtape.
After Future left the stage, Drake played several songs from “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” before ending the show with fireworks and leaving all the ladies (and most men) thirsty for more Drake.
