Automobile show to roll up to campus for students who love cars, engines
A car show will be coming to the St. Edward’s University campus, Hilltop Car Club Co-President Spencer Doyle said.
The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Nov. 13 on top of the parking garage.
Doyle says the organization has not yet had an event on-campus, and was inspired to host a car show after attending so many around Austin and seeing some cars around campus.
“[There are] a bunch of cool cars around campus that I’ve always wanted to meet the people and it’s just kinda a good way to get together,” Doyle said.
Doyle also says the event is free and open to anyone in the St. Edward’s community, but stopped short of opening it up to anyone saying there are already local events for the entire Austin community.
“You don’t have to have a car to come out … it’s just to come out and meet people, make friends and get a group going,” Doyle said.
The Hilltop Car Club is an organization run by students who love to see and learn about different kinds of new and old cars, their engines and much more.
Currently the club goes off campus for events like to races at the Circuit of the Americas.
Contrary to some people’s belief, you don’t need a nice car to be in the club.
Doyle talked to the University Police Department, Facilities and Student Life to get his event cleared and approved, which was a quicker and easier process than one might think, Doyle says.
There will be absolutely no racing or burnouts by anyone participating in the car show, Doyle said.
Making sure this inaugural event goes well is a priority of his. Club member Adrian Villarreal hopes to meet more people that have a similar interest of cars and passion to learn more about them while attending more events around Austin.
Villarreal owns a BMW M4, and said he loves his car just as much as breathing and life itself.
“My father laughed at me because I named my car,” Villarreal said. His car is named Vanessa.
Doyle hopes the car show will spark a larger interest by more students, and lead to future car-related events.
“If it kicks-off, we can do it every month or every other month, or try to,” Doyle said. “We can start doing barbecue drives from it, or going to track days or meeting up for ‘Cars and Coffee’.”
