Brand New is a favorite for many, especially college kids who grew up listening to them.

In the past, it’s been hard to catch one of their shows because they play so rarely. Recently, they’ve been playing more festivals and shows and finally made it to ACL.

They opened their set with songs from their newest album, which came out in 2009. The crowd did not fully come alive until the band started playing stuff from their earlier albums, including fan favorite song, “Jesus Christ.”

The crowd seemed preoccupied during most of the set. Having seen them live last year at Stubb’s, I can say they were much better in that small setting. The set seemed to end abruptly; the crowd was disappointed and called for an encore. If you are passionate about Brand New, I would not pass up seeing them, even in a festival setting.
