Hasley new albumn ‘BADLANDS’ not too bad, repetitive but catchy
New, fresh-faced, edgy, pop artist Halsey released her first official album, “BADLANDS” after only releasing one EP, “Room 93” earlier in 2015.
Now, the 20-year-old singer is appearing in more media spotlights, from magazines to music festivals.
With her growing popularity and her strong image, she could become just as popular as other female alternative-pop artists, including Lana Del Rey and Charli XCX.
Her lyric-writing skills are amazing and intellectual for such a young artist.
One of her most popular lyrics is from her song “Colors.” Halsey sings: “You were red and you liked me ‘cause I was blue/ You touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky/And you decided purple just wasn’t for you.”
Her deep and interesting lyrics, like the ones above, mesh greatly with her pop beats and catchy hooks.
Although her lyrics are great, the majority of the album sounds similar. Songs like “New Americana” and “Ghost” are very repetitive and have a possibility of becoming singles, but they sound the same.
It might be her voice, or just the way the songs are produced, but the album’s songs are so similar, the album almost becomes boring to listen to.
Hopefully, since this is just her first album, she will only excel from here and change up her style.
Overall, if you’re into alternative-pop, definitely check out “BADLANDS.”
Even with her repetitive lyrics and similar sounds, the album is catchy and fun to sing along to.
