SGA presidential campaign: Shelby Evans
To empower, not to be in power; that’s the foundation of my philosophy as both a person and as a presidential candidate.
St. Edward’s University has enabled my development as a leader, where through various roles I’ve had the opportunity to encourage all that brilliant potential energy into real kinetic movement.
Students have so much more influence than I believe they know. I will relentlessly advocate for student initiatives, insist on reliable results and work diligently to communicate and connect students to what should be their most supportive resource, Student Government Association.
This means taking steps toward bold, real, change. I joined SGA this past year, unsure of what exactly student government really did or could do on campus. It took joining the association for me to truly grasp what was possible to accomplish; this is something I would like to change.
Student government is intended to be a mouthpiece for students.
No matter your identity, your voice counts!
I chose St. Edward’s partially because it looks like Hogwarts, but mostly because it is a smaller-sized school that operates on the missions of social justice, servant leadership and positive change.
My specific goals include, but are not limited to, changing our resolution system to include more students in the legislation process, spearheading green initiatives and bringing St. Edward’s to the digital age with increased support for our media programs.
This campus has a lot to offer; I want to maximize the opportunities that students are empowered to engage in and push the boundaries of what we believe is possible for ourselves, our campus and the future.
