NCAA Division I Final Four set to compete for national title
Michigan State will face Duke Saturday in the Final Four and for the right to play in the national championship game in Indianapolis. The other big match-up on Saturday will be between two number one seeds.
Kentucky faces Wisconsin Saturday night in what might be the best chance for Kentucky to lose. Kentucky was challenged by third seeded Notre Dame University in the Elite Eight round.
The Fighting Irish scared Kentucky fans, leading late into the game.
However, empty possessions down the stretch would allow Kentucky to hang on.
It looked like overtime was a real possibility, as the teams were tied 66-66 with the final possession belonging to Kentucky.
With six seconds remaining in the game, Notre Dame committed a foul.
Kentucky was in the bonus and was awarded two free throws.
They would hit both shots, going up 68-66.
Notre Dame had one chance to drive all the way down the court. They would put up a three-pointer as time expired, but it badly missed.
With the victory, Kentucky secured their fourth Final Four appearance in the last five seasons.
The Wildcats lost to the University of Connecticut (UCONN) in the Final Four in 2011.
They would make a dominant run to win the national championship in 2012.
Kentuckly missed the NCAA tournament completely the very next year. However, they made another amazing run, as an eighth seed. They lost in the national championship game, again to UCONN in 2014.
What can be agreed on is that whoever wins this year’s tournament deserves it.
The field started with 68 teams, in four different regions. Many predicted at least three No. 1 seeds would make the Final Four, according to ESPN’s Bracket Challenged.
Three of the four made it, but now only one can win it all or perhaps a seven seed will take it all home for the second straight season.
