Austin offers entertainment options even for student budgets
Austin welcomes more than 50,000 college students each fall to explore its weirdness.
Students from all over Texas and the nation gather in the state capital to obtain their graduate degrees, network, and find opportunities that will lead them to future jobs.
With a slowly growing economy, the pressure is on for individuals to make ends meet, find internships, make it to class on time and manage to finish their homework. Thankfully, with countless responsibilities students face each semester, there are an equal amount of pocket-friendly places where students can relieve their stress and have a good time with friends.
Catering to such a young demographic, Austin provides many fun and convenient activities that allow newcomers to explore the beauty of the city for free.
The Barton Creek Greenbelt
For those who love nature and all things healthy, The Barton Creek Greenbelt is one of the best trails in Texas where one can have a great hike. A 7.25-mile stretch beginning at Zilker Park and ending in the Woods of Westlake subdivision, the Greenbelt allows running enthusiasts to perform their daily exercise while enjoying a scenic view.
Free Yoga by Whole Foods
Aside from attractive views, health aficionados can also enjoy free yoga. During the month of September, Whole Foods on Lamar is offering classes in its plaza each Wednesday at 8:00 pm. All that is necessary is a mat and water and you’re good to go. Namaste.
The Opener
Hotel Vegas, located on 1500 E. 6th Street, offers the opportunity to experience open mic comedy every Monday from 8:00 – 10:00 PM. You can attend or sign up by e-mailing [email protected] by midnight Saturday.
Historic Scoot Dive-Inn Theatre
The Historic Scoot Inn will be featuring free movies for the month of September and October on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM. Some of the films to be featured include Almost Famous, The Blues Brothers, The Last Waltz, Purple Rain and many more! The art of cinema is a pleasure everyone should enjoy.
KUTX Austin Free Music Series
You can’t live in the live music capital of the world without enjoying some great free music! Open to the public every Sunday from 2:00 – 6:00 PM, touring Texas’ bands will perform at Uncle Billy’s Brew and BBQ on 1530 Barton Springs Rd. Bands begin performing at 4:00 PM.
