Student-made short film explores the consequences of bullying
Halloween 2013 marked the YouTube release of St. Edward University’s very own Rashad White’s first short film, “Walk in a Dead Boy’s Shoes.”
White had the job of writing, directing, acting, and editing the short film. The movie tackles the issue of bullying and its consequences through an original thriller story.
The story of this short film revolves around James Williams (Mardio Lattimore) and his history with being bullied by TJ (Justin “DJ 2ntenz” Torres) and his friend Devon (Will Taliaferro). The film starts off by showing how TJ has an extreme grudge on James and how he really has no reason to bully him. It is the last straw when TJ and Devon beat James up again, causing him to commit suicide. After TJ and Devon find out about James’ death, they start experiencing paranormal experiences.
Overall, the short film has a great message to give by targeting bullying. The film starts off a bit slow and comedic at times, but it later shows why Halloween was its release date. There was a scene that felt like it ran for too long and had little tie with the plot.
It is a great short film to watch at any time for its easy-to-follow story and message for the community. The movie gives out the message that bullying is bad and gives it a slight thriller twist.
This movie also has a good cast for a first short film. The acting executed was decent, but bad at some points. For a first-time director, White did a great job with what he had to work with. The editing for this movie was also very impressive making the film easy to watch and follow. Although “Walk in a Dead Boy’s Shoes” is not a Hollywood-level short film, it is still worth watching.
