Festival as weird as Austin itself
As summer approaches, many events and concerts will be going on in Austin. But there is one I definitely think no one should miss out on.
If you have not attended it before, do not miss it this year. It is the Keep Austin Weird Festival and 5K.
According to the Keep Austin Weird Festival website, “This festival’s philosophy is go big or go home. What does this mean? This means Keep Austin Weird is one blowout party full of music, family activities and local vendors eager to reflect the creative nature of Austin.”
The festival will take place at The Long Center on Saturday, June 22. The festival will begin at 2 p.m. and the 5K will start at 7 p.m.
There will be many bands performing, but as of now they have only announced three of the acts. Those three acts are the Shiny Toy Guns, who will be headlining at 8:30 p.m., the Whigs, who will be playing at 5:30 p.m. and Erin McCarley, who will be playing at 4:30 p.m., according to the website.
The festival organizers encourage participants to “bring your creative side, your appreciation for the great city of Austin and a desire to have fun.”
If you just want to attend the festival, it costs $12, but if you want to register for the 5K it costs $42.50 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
They are also offering VIP Registration for $95, which includes VIP access to the festival in which people will get complimentary drinks and bites, get to watch the shows in a shaded area and an event t-shirt.
According to the website, there is “No need to hide your kids or hide your wives (or husbands) as there are plenty of fun shenanigans for any Austinite in attendance.”
