FFF FEST REVIEW: El Ten Eleven
The beauty of an instrumental band is the freedom to stretch across an array of genres and duo Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty take full advantage of this freedom.
All without vocals, Dunn plays the doubleneck bass/guitar and Fogarty plays drums, but they sound like a six-person band with the help of foot pedals that create perfectly-timed recorded loops live.
“For those of you who are seeing us for the first time,” Dunn said during El Ten Eleven’s set, “this is all being done live, no laptops.”
Perhaps the most creative display of talent was when Dunn played his guitar with a violin bow, creating a unique resonating sound reminiscent of The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony.”
The musicians’ passion seems to show in every movement they make; Dunn’s face is in a constant look of serene ecstasy while performing.
The emotional music created by El Ten Eleven forces the listener to get creative in deciphering what the song is about.
However, for those not interested in instrumental theme analysis, just sitting back and enjoying the versatile rhythms is perfectly fine too.
