ACL SATURDAY REVIEW: Dev
The one question running through everyone’s mind during Dev’s 12:30 p.m. set was, “Why is she playing so early?”
This pop/rap/electronic diva has way too much attitude to still be playing before the sun has gone down.
Her audience consisted of mainly midriff-baring high schoolers with braces, and every ounce of their attention focused on her. The 23-year-old singer from northern California certainly knows how to work a crowd–rapping, dancing, singing, smiling and laughing throughout her 30-minute set.
Her hits “Bass Down Low,” “In the Dark” and “Like a G6” were sprinkled throughout her other not-so-popular and, admittedly, not-as-catchy songs. But when the crowd knew the words to the song, they went crazy.
Most people would not think of Dev as a rapper, but she proved herself by spitting rhymes as good as any female rapper.
Dev is not your average pop star; she has with more bass and less flashiness, and she showed it during her short time at ACL.
Her set showcased upbeat dance songs alongside low tempo numbers, none without ample amounts of bass, though.
Dev was having a blast on stage. Her energy was turned way up, which made for a very fun and entertaining show.
