Co-News Editor bids good-bye to paper
Former news editor Anna Whitney left the world of Hilltop Views Dec. 5. She was 21.
A self-proclaimed “Oreo en thusiast,” Whitney’s favorite pastimes were stress-eating bagels and laughing hysteri cally at the definition of “hill topper” on urbandictionary.com.
Whitney was known for her groundbreaking articles that changed the face of jour nalism. She provided a public service with her work, with evocative articles about social issues such as her in-depth commentary “Should profes sional athletes stop tweeting like Lohan?”
Whitney’s friends and co-workers spoke lovingly of their fond memories of the former editor.
“Was she that girl who spilled Diet Coke all over her self before a newspaper meet ing once?” Lesli Simms, Hill top Views copy editor, said of Whitney.
Whitney, quite literally, lived and died by the Hilltop Views style guide, as she asked that a copy be buried along with her.
“Make sure … someone checks … the jumps … for Andrew,” Whitney uttered in a broken whisper shortly be fore her death.
Whitney is survived by a staff of 29, who are going to do amazing things with the paper next semester.
