Center seeking donations for family
A local non-profit needs donations to support a family that was the victim of human trafficking.
The Bernardo Kohler Center needs monetary donations to help pay for the family’s living expenses, such as food and rent, as well as clothing donations for the two children.
The center, founded by St. Edward’s University alumnus David Walding, provides legal services to Texas immigrants, more specifically to human trafficking victims.
The center rescued the mother from a human trafficking ring that brought women to the United States from El Salvador to work as prostitutes in Houston bars, said Dottie Laseter, the family’s caseworker. The police bust of this human trafficking ring received a lot of media attention and is often referred to as the Mondragon case.
The two children—a 1-year-old girl and a 5-year-old-boy—need clothes. Those interested in donating clothes can contact Professor Kay Burrough at [email protected] or by dropping the donations off at the office of the dean of Behavioral and Social Science in Doyle 226A.
Monetary donations can be made at the Bernardo Kohler Center’s website: www.bernardokohler.org.
