A prom king by any other sex would still be just as popular

 

 In October, Rebecca Arel lano and Haleigh Adams made history at their high school. The young couple was elected homecoming king and queen, respectively, by their peers at Patrick Henry High School. Adams and Arellano are the first lesbians to be crowned homecom ing royalty at Patrick Henry, and their peers and teachers have mostly been supportive. But others have voiced disap proval of the non-traditional couple. Adams said in an in terview with ABC News that some Patrick Henry students anonymously voiced their opinion that it was inappro priate for a female student to win the title of king, which traditionally goes to a male student. Adams explained that she and Arellano could not have run as a couple if one of them had not run as king and the other as queen.

Adults, many of them out side of San Diego, have also criticized the non-traditional homecoming royalty. Ac cording to a San Diego NBC affiliate, school superintendent Bill Kowba interrupted a press conference to address the adult objectors, whom he called “bullies.”
