Club soccer teams near end of the season
As their seasons near an end, the St. Edward’s University Men’s and Women’s Club Soccer teams have continued to represent St. Edward’s.

With their final game of the season set for Oct. 22 against Rice at the lower soccer field, the men’s club soccer team is coming off strong victories as it defeated San Antonio College 7-1 on Oct. 8 and the University of Texas at Arlington 4-1 on Oct. 15.
In the San Antonio College game, seniors Greg Thomas and Daniel Lafuente scored two goals each, and junior Noe Carilla, freshman Matt McClintock and freshman Eduardo Maradiaga scored one goal each.
A game highlight was junior goalie Zach Wichman’s performance at a new position after the team secured a solid lead. Wichman played forward, which was fun to watch, said Lafuente.
In the UT-Arlington game, Lafuente scored two goals, and Ian Benavidez and Eduardo Maradiaga each scored one goal.
Prior to the San Antonio College game, the team lost to the University of Houston 2-1 and Lamar University 4-2.
“The most successful part of season has been playing tough without always having our full starting lineup at every game,” Lafuente said. “Three of four losses have been very close, and none of them with all our starters so it’s good to see the team still money.”
