Two staff members of St. Edward’s University are on the road to potentially hosting their own panel at South by Southwest (SXSW) next March.

Director of Communications Mischelle Diaz and Public Relations Associate Marcie Lasseigne have submitted the proposal for their panel, entitled “Social Media and its Role in College Recruiting,” to SXSW.

If this panel gets enough votes, it will appear as an Interactive panel at SXSW.

“On Oct. 24, 2011, 300 accepted panel proposals will be announced on the SXSW website,” Diaz said. “If our proposition is not selected, then we’ll receive a status update about it. The final status updates will be announced on Dec. website.”

Diaz and Lasseigne have slightly different perceptions about the challenges faced in their work with social media.

“Keeping up with changes in social media is a challenge,” Diaz said. “Technology evolves very university.”
