Women’s soccer triumphs, ties on the road
After tasting defeat for the first time in 2011, the #19 St. Edward’s women’s soccer team redeemed themselves with a convincing 2-0 road victory over UT Permian-Basin on Thursday Sept. 22.
Despite a scoreless first half, Topper’s Tribe kept the opposing goalkeeper scrambling throughout the game before eventually cashing in two second half goals by senior Kelly Servage and sophomore Kristen Hart in the space of three minutes.
The Hilltopper ladies rambeled on to Wichita, Kan. to square off against the Newman Jets just two days later. Unfortunately, Newman goalkeeper Christina Farid was the game’s top gun as she repelled a barrage of Hilltopper strikes to salvage a 0-0 tie. St. Edward’s outshot Newman 27-3 on the day, but Farid turned away each attempt.
St. Edward’s is currently 6-1 in season play, 1-0-1 Heartland Conference, and will lace em’ up in Dallas on Saturday Oct. 1 against first-place Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
