Bandiera’s death due to appendicitis
The late St. Edward’s University student Mario Nicolas Bandiera died of an infection due to a ruptured appendix, according to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office.
Bandiera, an international student from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was discovered dead in his room on campus in Teresa Hall on Feb. 21. He was 21 years old.
An official autopsy and toxicology report, a public document released by the medical examiner and obtained by Hilltop Views on Monday, found that Bandiera suffered from acute appendicitis that resulted in a ruptured appendix. The appendicitis resulted in acute peritonitis, an inflammation of the membrane which lines the inside of the abdomen and internal organs, the report said.
The report confirmed the university’s announcement to students that Bandiera had likely died due to natural causes.
Bandiera, a computer information science major, was in his first semester at St. Edward’s. He had planned to return to his university in Buenos Aires, Universidad Argentina de la Empresa, for the fall semester.
The university held a memorial vigil for Bandiera on campus on the night of Feb. 21 at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto by the university soccer field.
