On a night honoring Austin’s best local bands and musical performers, Mother Falcon caught the attention of the audience of the Austin Music Awards with the performance of its new album “Alhambra.”

This chamber pop band made up of 19 different members and a variety of instruments ranging from violins, cellos, drums, trumpets and the accordion played an exciting 45-minute set in front of many devoted fans, as well as first time listeners, at the Austin Music Hall.

Throughout the set, fans gathered around the front of the stage to admire the orchestral combination and singing talents of two main vocalists Nick Gregg and Claire Puckett, as well as the asthetics of the stage. Even though the album dropped just a few weeks ago, fans already knew the words to songs such as “Fireflies” and “Alligator Teeth”.

As two large screens provided close ups of band members while they played, the show seemed to be very intimate and a one of a kind performance.

“The overall ambience of the stage was amazing and very organized, and the stage lights were extremely well synchronized with the music,” St. Edward’s University student Julia McVey said. “Everything was perfect.”

Mother Falcon’s extraordinary performance could not have been a better way to end SXSW 2011 and the AMAs.
