On the Rocks: The Library on 6th
In the second edition of “On the Rocks,” Danny takes a look at The Library.
Students seeking study breaks can get away from the university library and find solace at The Library, a bar on 6th St. with a décor to match its name.
Manager Stoney Gabel says what sets The Library apart is that it’s cleaner than most bars on 6th St.
The bar is open seven days a week and attracts primarily college students. The bar has $1.50 domestic drafts and well drinks on Sunday through Tuesdays. Wednesdays also have the same special with additional $2 imported drafts. Thursdays are College Night, where students can buy $1 domestic bottles and well drinks, $2 import bottles, and $2.50 “U Call Its” until 11 p.m. The bar also offers $2.50 “U Call Its” until 11 p.m. and $3 Long Islands Teas all night.
The Library is two stories with three full service bars, and plenty of booths, tables and patio space throughout the club. The bar also has pool tables on the second floor and television screens broadcasting music videos.
Cecy Marroquín, a senior at St. Edward’s says that she is attracted to the bar for its unique environment.
“Its funny to look around the bar and see all sorts of different people singing their hearts out to Bon Jovi or Coolio,” said Marroquín. “Another plus about the bar are the cheap drinks which always make for a fun night.”
That unique environment has spread across the country. The Library first opened in 1998 and has now expanded as a chain with locations in Lubbock, Fort Worth and Minneapolis.
Danny D’s verdict:
The Library is the cleanest bar that I’ve ever been to on 6th St. and the music selection is very eclectic. Most nights, the bar plays Top 40 music and offers something for every music taste.
The bar’s main downfall is that it’s often times overcrowded and the wait time for a drink on a busy night can run up to 20 minutes, and the bartenders are not always polite. If you find yourself at The Library on a busy night, your best bet is to order drinks upstairs.
Overall, the cleanliness of the bar helps make up for the lack of quality customer service.
I give The Library three out five shakers.
