SXSW: Crowds flock for Aziz Ansari
You’ve been waiting in line for two hours to see one of your favorite comedians when suddenly you see those flashing red and blue lights.
Long-time comedian and “Parks and Recreation” star Aziz Ansari set up an impromptu show March 16 at Frank’s gourmet hot dog restaurant in an attempt to get closer to some of his Twitter followers.
The performance, which was meant to take place at 8 p.m., was supposed to be a small gathering for the venue’s 50-person capacity. However, word spread quickly, and the line soon grew from a few to a few hundred. As the line grew, so did the anxiousness of Frank’s employees in charge of maintaining the gathering. Employees eventually moved the gathering to a nearby parking lot — without the permission of the lot’s attendants.
By the time the event was underway, the parking lot attendants had called the police and those in line were forced to disperse.
Although the show eventually went on, it was not the outcome that hundreds of loyal fans hoped for. As several disappointed fans learned, there are no guarantees when you attend an unofficial show, so be sure to come prepared with a back-up plan.
