St. Edward’s student found dead on campus
A St. Edward’s University student was found dead in an on-campus residence hall Monday morning.
The body of Mario Nicolas Bandiera, an exchange student from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was discovered in Bandiera’s room in Teresa Hall just prior to 10 a.m. Monday. The cause of death is currently unknown.
There will be a candlelight vigil Monday night for Bandiera at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto. The vigil is scheduled for 9 p.m.
University spokeswoman Mischelle Diaz notified students of Bandiera’s death in an e-mail Monday afternoon.
Here is the full statement: “The St. Edward’s University community is deeply saddened to share the news that a St. Edward’s student died today, Feb. 21. Mario Nicolas Bandiera, an exchange student from Buenos Aires, Argentina, majoring in Computer Information Science, was found dead in his room at Teresa Hall. Although the official cause of death is unknown at this time, there is no reason to believe the student death is attributed to anything other than natural causes. An investigation is being conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Austin Police Department. You are encouraged to remember Mario, his family and his friends in your thoughts and prayers. As a community, it is important that we support one another as we mourn this death. Please remember that there are numerous support services available on campus including Campus Ministry (448-8499) and the Health & Counseling Center (448-8538).”
